SF's Moon Duo Announce Debut Full-Length LP, Release Title Track

Categories: New Releases
The future's so boring we gotta wear shadessss

I've only ever seen one picture of San Francisco's Moon Duo, the (um) duo of Sanae Yamada and Ripley Johnson, the latter being the guitarist for alt-fuzzmongers Wooden Shjips. And until today I would have told you I'd only ever heard one kind of song by Moon Duo, namely a densely sibilant, vaguely listless cocktail of buzzsaw drone and Stooges-y undertow.

Today I am proven wrong.

The Duo has just announced that its first full-length album, Mazes, will come out on March 29 on New York spookarama Sacred Bones. Not only is there a new picture to be seen (that posture! those shorts!), but there's a new sense of purpose and dynamism in the jangly title track, which you can listen to below. Not to worry, you could still sandblast a building with the guitar sound, but could also waggle your tailfeathers to the tune a little bit. What other wonders are in store for 2011? (Besides a show April 11 at Bottom of the Hill, that is?) Only time will tell.
