Well, strike one up for subtlety. The Gilman street snots turned Broadway rocking arena kings known as Green Day have plans for new a live album titled -- yes, really -- Awesome As Fuck.
As crude a moniker as this may be, it's also not without justification. Having caught Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown tour as it rolled back into the Bay Area via Shoreline Amphitheatre last year, we can confess having to fight a strong urge to include that phrase in our review. Don't believe us? Watch the trailer for Awesome As Fuck after the jump, and tell us what you'd call it.
A posting on Amazon indicates that this double album is set for release March 15. Since Green Day recorded its shows on its last tour -- and given that those shows were about three hours each -- there's probably a ton of titanic, bratty, arena-pop material. But of course, we'll have to reserve judgement on whether Awesome as Fuck will truly be, well, awesome as fuck. Or if it'll be like that boring 30 minutes of the concert where the bandmembers all laid down onstage (which, to be fair, seems pretty unlikely).
Update: Reader @abbeyfox informs us that there's quite a history to the phrase "awesome as fuck" for Green Day fans. The sign hysteria was started in Paris with a simple "thank you." Eventually, courtesy of some profane American motherfuckers, the tradition morphed into massive numbers of fans holding up signs that read "awesome as fuck" at the band's summer 2010 concerts.
