SF Tape Music Festival Starts Tonight At Fort Mason

Heads up to all you tapeworms: sfSound is presenting three evenings of "classical audio art and new fixed media compositions" at Fort Mason (not one of those cavernous hangar-sized spaces where they have book sales and cupcake wars, unfortunately, but close). For only $30 (sliding scale!) you can spend your weekend evenings immersed in total darkness while at least sixteen speakers insinuate intricate audio sculptures all around you.

The festival, which starts tonight with some more old-school selections, pays tribute to both sonic O.G.s like Mauricio Kagel and Pierre Boulez to young bucks like Kyle Bruckmann and Oakland's own Cliff Caruthers, by way of better-known audiophiles like Christian Marclay and U.K. "sound diffusion guru" Jonty Harrison, who will give a recital of his own thirty-year catalog on Sunday night. (That's a catalog that started almost thirty years ago, not one that takes thirty years to perform.

Expect to be soothed, strained and jolted in equal measure -- not for nothing is the festival's slogan "cinema for your ears." Find out schedule and details and purchase exceedingly reasonably priced tickets here.
