Sonny Smith Pairs with the Sandwitches for New EP; Hear Their First Song Here

Sonny Smith, with no Sunsets or Sandwitches
Sonny Smith, artist, writer, recent Fat Possum Records recruit, and very, very nice guy, usually plays with a band called the Sunsets. But he's got a new project with another S.F. group you may know of called the Sandwitches. So pay attention, now: Instead of Sonny and the Sunsets, this is Sonny and the Sandwitches -- a 25 percent less alliterative name for a fun new collaboration. Sonny and the witches are putting out an EP on Dec. 11; we've got a song from it for you to download after the jump, and, whether you generally prefer sunsets or witches, we highly recommend you do so.

The song's called "Throw My Ashes Off The Pier," and and it sort of melds the old-timey atmospheres of both groups with mournfully gorgeous male/female vocals and the more countrified-leanings of the Sandwitches. It makes us excited to hear this (apparently nameless) four-song EP. Pre-order the plastic platter here, and feel free to shove it in our stocking this year if you're reading this, Mom.
