Jazz Mafia performing Brass, Bows & Beats

What's a hip-hop symphony, you ask? Well for one thing, it's a major musical event -- Jazz Mafia mastermind Adam Theis premiered his Brass, Bows, & Beats at the Palace of Fine Arts in 2009, and later took it to the Montreal Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, and to the Hollywood Bowl, among other esteemed locales. More to the point, it's a longish piece of music structured like a symphony but with elements of jazz, hip-hop, Latin rhythm, balladry, and improvisation, written for 45 musicians and conducted by Theis himself.

Theis is sitting down to work on a new symphony soon, so this Friday will see the Mafia perform the work for the last time in the Bay Area. You want to win tickets to this mind-expanding show? Come this way...
