Painted Palms' Canopy EP = Dreamy Local Psych-Pop For Free

Not sure if it's considered a pejorative to call a new band "chillwave" these days, so perhaps it's best to avoid that word when bringing up Painted Palms, a newish S.F. outfit whose upbeat electro-psych-pop we are rather enjoying. Anyway, what this two-person bedroom project really sounds like is a West Coast Animal Collective, but with a bit more blatant beats and a sprinkling of '60s jangle. Hear it after the jump.

Apparently a San Francisco-New Orleans internet collaboration, Painted Palms is the work of cousins Christopher Prudhomme and Reese Donohue. And overlooking, for a moment, the blatant Gorilla Vs. Bear/this-has-been-done-too-much quality of its cover art -- and a few too Neon Indian-y moments -- Painted Palms' Canopy EP is a rather charming listen. Stream or download it for free below.
