Listen to the Lengthily Titled New Album by S.F.'s Sad Bastard Book Club

Aside from the ridiculously long titles Sad Bastard Book Club gives its music (mouthfuls such as "You Get an 'A' for Effort, but Burning a Pile of Physics Books Won't Curry Favor With the Gods of Construction. It Will Only Piss Off the Laws of Nature," and "Unfortunately, the Signposts Are All Written in a Language We Can Never Hope to Understand"), the Bay Area outfit also shares in the romanticized doom and gloom of Godspeed's haunting albums. But the instrumentation and vocals sound more like the Canadian band's excellent sister group, Thee Silver Mt. Zion. Still, SBBC explores its own post-rock terrain on Family Dinner, which was recorded in an old hotel saloon in San Gregorio, CA, and rewards listeners who love to get intimate with the sounds they consume.
