Best Coast Announced as Surprise Headliner for Aquarius Records' 40th Birthday Party
The landmark Mission District music retailer Aquarius Records -- home to fine local, weird, obscure, amazing music on vinyl and CD -- will celebrate its 40th birthday party with a big bash at Cafe Du Nord on Monday. At first, the lineup was local and none-too-shabby, with hip S.F. garage-poppers the Mantles and the electro-pscyh mindbenders Lumerians at the top of the bill -- plus a secret headliner.
Today, that headliner was revealed: It's So-Cal sun-pop songstress Bethany Cosentino, aka Best Coast, aka one of the biggest indie rock breakthroughs of the last year.
Maybe we should have seen this coming. After all, the folks at Aquarius love Best Coast, and Cosentino and Co. are headlining their very own show at Great American Music Hall the following night. (Also, the Aquarius folks did drop a few decent clues.)
But now, you can see Best Coast two nights in a row if you like -- and get a healthy helping of local music handpicked by the tasteful ears of Aquarius employees, all while celebrating a great local record store's four decades of existence.
The store's 40th birthday party begins promptly at 8 p.m. Monday, October 25, at Cafe Du Nord. Tickets are all of $10. Here's the full lineup:
