Metallica May Be Planning (Especially) 'Theatrical' Tour

Who you callin' theatrical?
At first, when we heard that Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told a New Zealand newspaper that his Bay Area metal band is working on a "theatrical" new tour, were kinda confused.

Did he mean a tour of smaller theaters (which would be rad, although likely impossible to get into)? Sadly, no.

And aren't Metallica shows already pretty damn theatrical -- what with the gunshot sounds, video projections, multilevel stages and such?

Yes. But they could be getting even more theatrical.

Ulrich says the concept being developed by the band is of a scale that could only be reproduced 10 or so times -- something insanely massive and overblown, roughly like Roger Waters' upcoming The Wall tour.

"We might incorporate a lot of different ideas instead of it being one particular thing. It would be a multitude of theatrical elements," Ulrich reportedly told a fan on New Zealand radio.

In other news, Ulrich also said he'd be up for a big four tour in 2011 or 2012, in which Metallica would tour the U.S. and U.K. with Slayer, Megadeth, and Testament. Which is awesome. But how you gonna tell us that won't be theatrical?
