Get to Know Pantha du Prince Before His S.F. Show This Weekend

As mentioned last week, Seattle's The Sight Below and Berlin's Pantha du Prince are bringing their own unique styles of beautiful, stripped-down techno soundscapes to The Independent this Saturday, September 18, and I'm more than excited to have them here. Especially because the last time German producer Hendrik Weber was scheduled to stop in San Francisco, he was waylaid, skipping over us for more shows in California's southern half. That was painful for me, as I've been spinning his latest record, Black Noise, pretty much on repeat since it was released earlier this year. In anticipation for this weekend's performance, I've been getting into loads of footage of Weber's live performance, including this piece from a recent show at The Echo in Los Angeles.

This video, which was produced by Videothing, premiered last month over on Pitchfork, and features Pantha du Prince getting deep into a twinkling rendition of Noise opener "Lay in a Shimmer" amidst the flashing lights and fans of The Echo. Watch as Weber delicately turns the churning rhythms and plinking melodies of his song into an expansive wash of atmosphere and texture, and then picture the same sounds coming from a brilliant soundsystem, lulling your ears and enticing you to move your body come this weekend. If you haven't had a chance to listen to the producer's excellent new record, which features Panda Bear of Animal Collective and Tyler Pope of !!!, you can stream the whole thing below.
