Mi Ami in 2008, still a three-piece

Back in July, the rather awesome San Francisco then-trio Mi Ami -- which described its sound to us as "ebullient blown-out spaced-out not rock" -- announced that bassist Jacob Long would be leaving the band to spend more time with his family and pursue other endeavors. Remaining members Daniel Martin-McCormick and Damon Palermo said they would reconfigure their sound a bit and continue under the Mi Ami name, and the band played its last show in S.F. as a trio on August 8. We wondered what would happen to the band and its sound. Well, Mi Ami fans, a newly released "Hard Up Practice Tape" (it sounds better than the name sounds) shows off the new two-piece Mi Ami, and it's pretty rad -- still lots of huge bass, a jammy instinct, and plenty of spaced-outness. Check it out, and catch Mi Ami's first show as a duo on October 1 at Li Po Lounge.
