Weekend Party Preview: French Dance and Summer Fun

What can we really say? The weekend forecast looks really good -- hopefully the nights will be warm, too. Here are a couple suggestions of what to do with the sparse amount of real summertime San Francisco has.

Friday, July 16

What: Nôze, Worthy, and Moomaw
Where: Mighty
When: 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: The Get Physical label knows dance music. More specifically, it's an excellent hub for electro- and house-friendly club tunes from the likes of Booka Shade, DJ T, and, here, French duo Nôze. The DJ/production outfit brings its energetic and improvisational live set Stateside for a night of brilliant new music and hyperactive stage antics. Nôze's live set is said to include "Korgs, computers, mixing desk, and their voices -- creating one of the most unique shows on stage today." But don't take the press release's word for it; get out, get drunk, get down, and find out for yourself.

Saturday, July 17

What: First Person Magazine Summer Party w/ Honey, Laurel Halo, and Tres Lingerie (DJ set)
Where: Levi's Workshop
When: 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Why: Sure, the new Levi's Workshop on Valencia hasn't been the most well-received addition to one of the Mission's favorite streets, but kudos to them for hosting events like this one. Local publication First Person Magazine is hosting this release party for its summer issue, entitled "The Discomfort of Sculpture Issue." We're not sure exactly what is uncomfortable about sculpture, but we do know a handful of great acts will be at the party. Fuzzy garage-pop outfit Honey, and Brooklyn's '80s-obsessed tunestress Laurel Halo, will be performing live, with Berkeley's disco/boogie-fiends Tres Lingerie handling the ones and twos in between acts. Plus, it doesn't hurt the whole thing is free with complimentary drinks from Levi's and snacks from Bi-Rite.
