Watch: Jonas Reinhardt Drops a 'Bomb'

Categories: That's My Jam!

Usually, I use the That's My Jam! column to post a downloadable MP3, or at least a streaming track that I've been getting down to lately. But no such materials were available for the this track from San Francisco's Jonas Reinhardt. It's probably better off that way, because the video for "Atomic Bomb Living" is just as enjoyable -- not to mention psychedelically vintage -- as the track itself. The video, directed by Heidi Petty, features sea cliffs, spaceships, dragons, robots, pagan rituals, and loads of Conan the Barbarian mermaid-babes. I'm really not sure what more you could ask for.

As for the song itself, Reinhardt's "Atomic Bomb Living," which is taken from the band's recently released album Powers of Audition , exists in the realm of old-school Krautrock outfits Hawkwind, Can, and Tangerine Dream, as well as more recent jam-futurists like Zombi or Beak>. Vintage synthesizers take a stronghold from the onset, and motorik drum and bass patterns carry the tune. Funky, spaced-out guitar licks seem to beam down from on high. The six-minute song rarely strays from its initial course, and drives itself farther along whatever astral plane it exists on -- helping "Atomic Bomb Living" envelop your consciousness. You can catch Jonas Reinhardt share these kind of tunes, among the band's many other groovy influences, tonight at Madrone.
