| Beach House tops many critics' Best of 2010 lists |
Music publications love to compile their personal (though not always eclectic) tastes into easily digestible lists of loves, hates, bests, and worsts, and that's largely because music fans love reading them. While some tastemakers wait for the year to finish before posting any definitive favorites, a few have decided to share their mid-year must-listens with the music-loving masses. I snagged up a small bunch of these lists from an array of sources, including indie blog
Gorilla vs. Bear, entertainment/events news source
Flavorwire, electronic music download hub
Bleep, and big-time rock mag
Spin.
None of the separate lists are identical by any means, but a few give props to standouts from Beach House, Yeasayer, Toro Y Moi, LCD Soundsystem, and Flying Lotus. They also aren't without a few unexpected, potentially unwarranted picks -- namely, albums from Hole, MGMT, The Gaslight Anthem, and M.I.A's
unfavorably reviewed bomb of a third album. A few of my personal favorites, Oneohtrix Point Never's
Returnal, Four Tet's
There Is Love in You, Pantha du Prince's
Black Noise, and Caribou's
Swim, also happened to make the cut. Check out each of the selected lists after the jump.
