Dâm-Funk "Surprise" SF Performance at Dr. Martens Store

Shoe hoarders and electro-funk fans alike can catch DJ, artist and producer Dâm-Funk spinning records at the Dr. Martens store in Upper Haight tonight -- a "surprise" performance so secret that the Bay Area media were notified days in advance.
The one-hour set at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by a meet and greet -- all leading to his 9 p.m. performance at the Mezzanine. Rachel Woodman, the San Francisco Dr. Martens general manager, tells us there will also be free beer. "We're known as being the fun party store," she said. The first 10 people ages 21 and over to walk in the store will each receive a pair of tickets to the Mezzanine show, and anyone who makes a Docs purchase will be eligible for three prize drawings:
- five tickets to the Mezzanine show with five backstage passes
- four tickets with table service
- two tickets and a pair of signed Docs
The appearance is also not so surprising given that Dâm-Funk teamed up with Dr. Martens earlier in the year as part of the company's 50th anniversary project. Several artists were asked to revisit an old track that "represents the spirit of the people who've worn DM's over the past 50 years." Dâm-Funk channeled 50 years of brand-label whoring with "The Things That Dreams Are Made Of" by The Human League.
