What Pavement Songs are You Hoping to Hear in Berkeley or Stockton?
It's Pavement week here in Northern California: The (temporarily) reunited indie-rock band will bring its shady lanes and crooked rains to its hometown of Stockton for a show Thursday night at the Bob Hope Theatre, and to Berkeley's Greek Theatre on Friday. For the hometown show, Pavement's original drummer, Gary Young, will be onstage -- the only time he's definitely playing with his old bandmates on their 2010 reunion tour. (Expect to see Bob Nastanovich in Berkeley.) Surprisingly, tickets are still available for both shows.
All which is fine. But what we're really wondering -- what we swear we haven't been daydreaming about for months now -- is: Which songs are they gonna play? Pavement has a meaty, though not titanic, back catalog, and reviews of their reunion shows so far show that they're performing a rich cross-section of it. So here are five Pavement songs that I really want to hear this week. What other songs do you want them to play? Let's compare notes in the comments. (And for a warm-up, here's Spin's dream Pavement setlist.)
My top five:
1. Range Life
2. Stop Breathin'
3. Embassy Row
4. Zurich Is Stained
5. Rattled by the Rush
Bonus: Shady Lane
OK, so according to reviews of the tour so far, most of these are almost guaranteed to be on their setlist. But "Embassy Row" and "Rattled By The Rush" seem unlikely. Here's hoping.
