This Weekend: Bobby Browser, Larry Heard, and Honey Soundsystem's Sticky Disco

This weekend, you've got four entirely unique options to occupy your nighttime escapades with. Either check out the latest in distorted electro-house, cram into a basement party with local underground beat makers, get into some sticky disco with Honey Soundsystem, or get a history lesson in house music at Som Bar. Each party is as equally worth your time as the next, but undertaking them all could prove detrimental to your body/mind functions for who knows how long. Let's be responsible here, even if it seems so much better not to be.

Friday, June 18

What: Ice Cream Social w/ Blu Jemz, Deathface, RCHRD OH?! and more
Where: 222 Hyde
When: 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: DJs and producers from NY, Chicago, and SoCal will convene at this novel nightclub where hyperactive rave tunes only come second to ice cream cones. Joining resident DJs Shane King and Sleazemore are Blu Jemz (fresh off of finishing his new album, Night People), ex-Guns 'n Bombs member (and current Trouble & Bass recording artist) Deathface, and former SF DJ scene mainstay RCHRD OH?!. Expect wide-eyed socialites, sweaty dancefloor patrons, buzzing dance music, and the sweet, creamy taste of ice cream.

What: Jaws, Bobby Browser, Waterborders, Bookworms, and Roche
Where: Li Po Lounge
When: 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: Forgive us, we've been talking about this show since the beginning of the week, but you can't really blame us. How often do a group of our city's most inventive and hard-working producers get together in one unique, underground location to throw down fresh tunes made almost strictly for flat-out partying? Here's a hint: rarely, if ever. Join Bookworms, Bobby Browser, Jaws, and more for an evening of local bedroom beat-makers emerging to make you get the fuck down.

Saturday, June 19
What: Beats in Space w/ Honey Soundsystem
Where: 222 Hyde
When: 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: The Honey Soundsystem collective is comprised of a handful of like-minded DJs and producers whose sole purpose is to spread lovely grooves and classic dance music. Its ranks include Pee Play, Ken Vulsion, Robot Hustle, Jason Kendig, Josh Cheon, and Derek Bobus, all of whom will be in attendance at the Beats in Space extravaganza at 222 Hyde. Cosmic disco jams, vintage house tunes, and more from the DJ crew's  well-rounded record bags are sure to pepper 222's stellar sound system.

What: Larry Heard (a.k.a. Mr. Fingers)
Where: Som Bar
When: 9 p.m. - 4 a.m.
Why: Now seems like as good a time as any to start bringing out the legendary producers of house music's heyday. The ideas of the genre seem to permeate not only contemporary dance music, but even the styles of live bands as well. So let us suggest catching Chicago-house veteran Larry Heard do what he does best: move dancefloors with soulful pieces of dance music history. Up-and-coming DJ/producer Sean O'Daniels (a.k.a. Musaria) opens the night. Find limited discount tickets and more detailed info here.
