R.I.P. Marvin Isley

Categories: R.I.P.

Music fans, pour one out for Marvin Isley. The bassist for the hugely successful Soul/R&B outfit The Isley Brothers passed away Sunday at age 56. News reports out yesterday said the cause of death was still unclear, but Isley suffered greatly from diabetes. He had lost the use of both legs and suffered a stroke and a kidney transplant, forcing him to retire from music in 1996.

Isley, the youngest member of his band of brothers, laid down some of the most memorable grooves in American pop music. He joined the band in 1969, the same year the Isley Brothers released the indelible "It's Your Thing," which ranks as one of the funkiest songs ever put to tape. Like the best of the Isley Brothers hits, this song seeped into our cultural consciousness, earning recognition far beyond just fans of soul and R&B. Check out this clip and leave your Isley Brothers memories and links in the comments.
