Come Together: Paul McCartney's Return to SF

My mom is way cooler than I am. Back when she lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and had a southern accent still intact, she was a music journalist whose homemade chocolate chip cookies gave her an automatic "in" backstage at Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen concerts. At 57, she continues to tell me my mixed CDs are not rock 'n' roll enough for her taste. But there is one name we can both agree is worth getting excited about: Paul McCartney.

McCartney's July 10 show at AT&T Park will be his first performance in San Francisco since the Beatles took the stage on August 29, 1966 at Candlestick Park. Little did the audience know, this would be their final concert together. (And the show wasn't even sold out. In fact, the show's organizers lost money.)

McCartney is slated to play Beatles and Wings classics, as well as songs from his solo career. He said that though it has been a challenge remembering the words to his older music, he can still bust out "The Long and Winding Road," "Blackbird" and "Lady Madonna" as if it were "Yesterday." Har, har.

Maybe I'll even invite my mom, if she promises not to dissolve into this:

An exchange of cookies might be in order, too.
