MP3 of the Day: Social Studies' Meandering Twee-Pop
We do detect a cozy twee-ness in the new "Holler Boys" from San Francisco's Social Studies. But mostly we're still puzzling over Natalia Rogovin's voice: Sometimes on "Holler Boys" it soars majestically in big feminine tones a la Neko Case, other times it sounds intimately girly (and not in a good way). Still, props to Social Studies for not following off-the-shelf structures from the outset -- there's a proggy energy to these synth-and-guitar-driven meanderings that distinguishes them from the cute-pop pack.
