Camps that teach young women how to rock are certainly commendable, but it's a safe bet Jenny Hurricane learned the old-fashioned way: by simply watching Iggy Pop. The Midnight Creeps frontwoman probably also gleaned a few stylistic pointers from frisky female predecessors like the Plasmatics' Wendy O. Williams, Vice Squad's Beki Bondage, The Lunachicks' Theo Kogan, Texas Terri Bomb, and maybe even Pretty on the Inside-era Courtney Love. Hurricane then stirred them all together into a pre-chewed meat stew that, while hardly an original recipe, is served up with scrappy alleycat verve while the rest of the band taps into the same three-chord, gutter-born rock 'n' roll vein as Johnny Thunders. Sharp Objects, meanwhile, feature the instantly recognizable guitar snarl of Daniel J. Travanti -- who you may remember as a key member of Seattle obnoxio-pop darlings the Briefs -- so the resemblance of the Objects' bratty punk single "Zero Ambition/Misspent Youth" to the Briefs' "Lifestyles of the Truly Lazy" is not just understandable, it's downright awesome.
