| Ezra Feinberg of band Citay will be playing acoustic this weekend at Amnesia bar. |
For those of you who earperk at any erudite-sounding (or free) event, this one's for you: McSweeney's publishing house is putting on "An All-Acoustic Summer Festival of Language and Thinking" this Saturday at Amnesia.
If the name isn't enough to get your inner bookworm wriggling with excitement, direct your attention to the slice of birthday cake centerpieced on the event flyer.
Andrew Leland, managing editor of The Believer, an SF-based monthly lit mag, is emceeing the event. If the quality of the event meets the quality of the work featured on the site, then it's probably not-to-be-missed.
Leland selected the reading authors -- Elif Batuman, Gideon Lewis-Kraus, Damion Searls, and Justin Taylor -- based on a fortuitous "geographical confluence" of their literary talent. "We [feel lucky] that they're all in SF this weekend," Leland says. He calls the event a "commerce-free celebration," in that the magazines are not trying to sell or market anything, just hoping to put on a good time for the readerly-writerly.
And in the spirit of the season, Ezra -- a member of SF indie-rock oufit Citay -- plans to strum "summer-scented cover songs" onstage in his first solo performance ever. We can't wait.
