Simian Mobile Disco

It's Memorial Day weekend! And we all know what that means: get drunk on Sunday! Well, we've certainly got your Sunday night covered, and your Friday and Saturday night, too. In fact, we've got quite the stellar mix of events here for you. There's a dance party that only plays movie soundtrack tunes, some epic disco tunes imported from NY and LA, a mini-rave with one of the UK's biggest dance production teams, and, of course, our recommendation for the best way to spend your extra weekend night. Enjoy!

Friday, May 28

What: Danger Zone One Year Anniversary Party
Where: Underground SF
When: 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: Quite possibly the only dance party in San Francisco dedicated to the forgotten relics of movie soundtracks, Danger Zone is celebrating its first whole year as a monthly event. DJs Young Faded and Cip will be spinning their favorite tunes from the likes of Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Saturday Night Fever, Ghostbusters, Empire Records, Footloose, Boyz n the Hood, and what ever else strikes thier fancy. But leave your popcorn at home, this is one movie going experience that requires plenty of drinking.

What: Face Presents My Cousin Roy and Nitedog
Where: SOM
When: 9:30 p.m. - 3 a.m.
Why: The club that used to be I Can't Feel My Face is now simply called Face, but the same DJs, Eug and J Montag, still run the joint and deliver loads of classic dance tunes and contemporary favorites. For this edition of the monthly party, Face imported two great DJ/producers from both US coasts. Coming up from LA is Nitedog who is the man responsible for the Black Disco label, and all the way from NY comes Wurst label head My Cousin Roy. The two are serious disco fiends, to say the least, and have brought with them enough jams to collectively take Face to a new level.

Saturday, May 29

What: Simian Mobile Disco (DJ Set) w/ Ryan Poulsen and Tenderlions
Where: Mezzanine
When: 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: If by now, you're not exactly sure who or what a Simian Mobile Disco is, chances are you simply wouldn't be interested in seeing the act perform a DJ set at this Mezzanine mini-rave. The two fellas of SMD are more or less gods within dance music circles. The duo's first album, Attack Decay Sustain Release, solidified their position at the top of the bloggable electro game, while the follow-up album, Temporary Pleasure, found the guys aiming directly for a pop-friendly sound. Though, regardless of SMD's approach, the outfit constantly creates interesting sounds and catchy songs, which could all translate perfectly to a hyperactive DJ set.

Sunday, May 30

What: Sweater Funk w/ E Da Boss, Eddy Bauer, and residents
Where: Li Po Lounge
When: 9 p.m. - 1:30 a.m.
Why: Well, we've got another three day weekend on our hands, so we'd better make the best of it, right? Here's a suggestion: go dance at one of the most entertaining disco and boogie parties SF has to offer. The free dance night is bringing in local talents E Da Boss and Eddy Bauer to help make your Sunday night even more amazing, and your Monday morning just a bit more hungover. Which is okay, because you don't have to work.
