Weekend Party Preview: Best of SF

DJ Funk

This is a big weekend in San Francisco. After the Weekly released its "Best of 2010" list, a lot of local clubs are doing victory laps to celebrate their new "award-winning" titles. One of the fellas who brings you Debaser kicks off a new old-school hip-hop monthly, and the Icee Hot crew is hosting one of the LA's most interesting beat making duos--the founder of booty-house and some local party starters are also traipsing about this weekend. We've got all three nights of your weekend covered, and we guarantee solid party tunes from each of these recommendations.

Friday, May 21

What: The Big Brother Beat w/ DJ Stab Master Arson
Where: Gestalt Haus
When: 10:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.
Why: From one of the dudes who brings you San Francisco's "Best Club Night to Wear Flannel", the always insane Debaser, comes this brand new party dedicated to "true school and golden era hip hop without all the HYPE." We can't say exactly which school is the "true" school (maybe it's just the old school?), but that's no matter. We've heard DJ Stab Master Arson (a.k.a. Chris Brennan) spin hip-hop at Debaser before, and he's got all the classic cuts.

Saturday, May 22

What: Lights Down Low w/ DJ Funk, White Girl Lust, Dials, and more
Where: Triple Crown
When: 10:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m.
Why: Chicago booty-house king DJ Funk is quite the unexpected guest for the long-running, hyperactive electro night Lights Down Low, but we certainly aren't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. Dude has been slinging his dirty (and we mean diiirrrrty) style of energetic bass-toting booty music for over 20 years now, and he's not about to slow down. Don't miss the veteran DJ/producer inspiring everyone to get low before he releases his next anthology Booty House Anthems 3.
