That's My Jam! Lazer Sword Remixes AC Slater
The latest track from the SF-cum-NY electro-blap outfit Lazer Sword is the duo's most varied and matured production yet. That being said, "Take You" isn't an original song. Bryant Rutledge and Anteaus Roy were given the task of remixing Trouble & Bass compadre AC Slater. The only familiar bits from his original version, though, are in Ninjasonik's party-hyping vocal performance, the old-school piano melody that carries the second half of the song, and the warped disco diva sample.
Lazer Sword's additions to "Take You"--which include a trademark stacatto synth melody, a slow-grooving electro-hop beat, and all sorts of warbled space noise--elevate what was once a simple electro banger into club music that's as fun and carefree as it is sinister and serious. It's definitely a track made for the dancefloor, but there's also something thoughtful and intricate about the whole thing. Not to mention the fact that the duo changed Ninjasonik's insufferable "rap" from obtrusive guest to complimentary element status. Lazer Sword's remix of "Take You" makes us even more excited to hear what the team has concocted for its recently finished debut full-length for Innovative Leisure.
