After New York Times writer Lynn Hirschberg called M.I.A. out on some of her bullshit in a profile published yesterday for the magazine, the spirited British rapper/songwriter/political activist took to Twitter this morning to pull some middle school revenge shit, tweeting: "CALL ME IF YOU WANNA TALK TO ME ABOUT THE N Y T TRUTH ISSUE, ill b taking calls all day bitches ;)" with the writer's phone number. Burn.
In the New York Magazine profile, Hirschberg does little to conceal her own irritation with the rapper, pointing out the strange inconsistencies and contradictions that make up M.I.A.'s political persona. Talking about inequality over drinks in Beverly Hills, quoting a former producer who called M.I.A.'s terrorism shtick a gimmick, and saying, "She thrives on conflict, real or imagined" are just a few bits from the harsh profile.
M.I.A. then tweeted: "NEWS IS AN OPINION! UNEDITED VERSION OF THE INTERVIEW WILL BE ON neetrecordings THIS MEMORIAL WEEKEND!!!" claiming that the quotes were taken out of context, that perhaps the profile was overly editorialized or insinuated. And don't try calling the number; Hirschberg's voicemail box is now full.
