Live Preview: The Jacuzzi Boys at Thee Parkside

As a native Californian who has never ventured eastward to Florida, many things come to mind when I think of Miami: bright lights, crowded beaches, sun baked bods, Will Smith. But catching wind of the city's most notorious noise makers has made me think that Miami might have more going on in its garages than us California garage lovers ever could've imagined. 

Deep inside the Bill Baggs State Park, in a mobile home surrounded by greenery and wild life, the Jacuzzi Boys cultivated their sound amidst their animal comrades--who would turn out to be integral parts of their songs--hoping to break out of obscurity. In releasing 7-inch after 7-inch of infectious, groove-ridden jams and touring non-stop, it seems the Jacuzzi Boys are well on their way to becoming known around the country.

Many have compared the band to its one-time tour mates the Black Lips, but while both groups' guitars jangle and buzz, the Jacuzzi Boys lack the ferocity that their Atlanta friends relied on so heavily in the creation of their sound. This isn't to say that the Jacuzzi Boys are tame or lack chutzpah, but rather their energy is more chilled out. There's an undercurrent in their music of cool ocean breeze, the warmth of the sun, the gentle motion of the water. Their geographical world is all in there, organically interspersed within their sweetly sloppy tunes.
