Glee Audition Videos: How Can Bad Music Be So Good?
And by good, we mean hilarious and strangely affecting. The user-submitted audition vids for Glee, Fox's teen singing dramedy, inspire heaps of schadenfreude. They also raise the question of how fame could possibly be worth such shameless public humiliation. But some of these vids--even some of the most hapless performances--are also terribly cute.
This cover of Avril Lavigne's "Keep Holding On" self-destructs after about 1:50 but kept us watching until its abrupt end. (It also kinda makes us yearn for the day that bluntly branded athletic gear becomes ironic hipster chic, 'cuz you know it's coming...)
Other Glee submissions come from folks who wouldn't know a tune if it sucker-punched them in the face. Watch Javier's adorable, yearning look in the first few seconds of this vid, and hope his prayers for perfect pitch are answered:

And just when that Glee audition addiction is reaching its saturation point, when you can't take anymore 8-bit backing tracks and adolescent voices cracking, you find a gem. This girl's inviting us to hate on her, but with unaccompanied singing like this, there's really no cause:
