Dawn Party With Fool's Gold at Cal Academy This Weekend
In addition to comedy from Sandra Bernhard, film from Spike Jonze, a reading by Found's Davy Rothbart, and drinks shaken and stirred by author Daniel Handler and Laszlo's Bryan Ranere, there will be plenty of music to entertain Jews and gentiles alike.
Highlights include a headlining set by the worldly partiers in Fool's Gold and a live score written and performed by Comets on Fire and Howlin Rain's Ethan Miller that will accompany the 1922 silent film Hungry Hearts, which is screening in the Morrison Planetarium.
"Dave [Katznelson, coproducer] really wanted a psychedelic score to add something edgy to the silent-film experience," producer Anne Cook says. "We felt that Ethan would be great as a composer and would add a moody, atmospheric element to the score."
Tickets for the 21-and-up event are available in advance only.
