For our party picks this weekend, we've kept it pretty close to home. The choices are boiled down to a bit of hometown hip-hop, some classic SF house music, a long-awaited homecoming performance, and some solid disco music for good measure. No matter which party suits your liking, we guarantee wonderful music and awesome performers across the board.

Friday, April 30

What: Area Codes w/ DJ Platurn, DJ Doc Fu, and DJ White Mike
Where: Element Lounge
When: 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: From the guy who brings you Get Loose every first Saturday at Beauty Bar, comes the second installment of a hip-hop party based on what all rappers love to rep: area codes. Each event features a few choice DJs from one region playing their hometown's favorite jams. DJ White Mike, who hosts the night, tells us, "February we honored the birthplace of hip-hop, New York, and it went off! This month we bring it home with a night of all Bay Area hip-hop brought to you by two of The Bay's finest DJs."

What: Lemonade, Solid Gold, and Active Child
Where: The Rickshaw Stop
When: 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: It was a sad day when San Francisco lost yet another of its interesting and innovative bands to the confines of the ever-popular Brooklyn music scene, but for at least one more night, we can pretend that Lemonade is still a part of our city's soundscape. The band's latest EP, entitled Pure Moods, showed a lot of changes from its debut self-titled album, but one thing that did not waiver is Lemonade's love for dance music of all kinds. Expect a sweaty, percussion-heavy get-down of homecoming proportions.

Saturday, May 1

What: Salted w/ Miguel Migs, Julius Papp, Sergio, and Dennis Infante
Where: Mighty
When: 10 p.m. - 3 a.m.
Why: San Francisco house music is alive and well, but just in case you need a reminder, make it out to Miguel Migs' epic Salted party. His soulful and funky dance beats are matched perfectly by Julius Papp's deep grooves, and the introduction of the uFunk Lounge will give DJs Sergio and Dennis Infante a chance to throw some old-school disco and funk jams into the mix. It's an eclectic party as classic as San Francisco itself.

What: Gemini Disco w/ Nicky B and Derrick Love
Where: Underground SF
When: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Why: Another wonderfully decorated night of endless disco tunes has been planned for Gemini Disco's May kick-off. This edition is a celebration of all those who rep the Taurus sign, in addition to a final farewell to longtime Gemini resident DJ Nicky B. The Gemini crew went even so far to say, "Bring a handkerchief, you will be crying by the end of the night. This is your last chance to see Nicky B DJ in San Francisco for a long time. He is truly an ascended master of the mystical art of making love to your brain with disco music!"
