Record Store Day, that annual record-buying rite of spring that will rock independent music sellers across the world, hits again this Saturday, April 17. The event is a two-fold celebration: it's a chance for bands to put out small-run, limited-addition releases that get music fans salivating (official list here) and an occasion for shops to book in-store performances and signings that draw audiences.

Whether you show up to buy, watch, or have body parts signed by your favorite artists, Record Store Day is an opportunity to show brick 'n' mortar retailers that you want them to stick around.

Below is a brief roundup of RSD goings-on. If you know of events that aren't mentioned, please let everyone know in the comments section.

Force of Habit records, the punk-focused shop in the Mission, will be celebrating with a flood of rare vinyl from owner Dave Devereaux's collection, including "early unreleased Morrissey, super rare Joy Division, and all the impossible-to-find Operation Ivy." There will also be sales on "some super cool stuff," which, knowing Devereaux's buying habits, could mean top-shelf turntables or even original-issue Simpson's action figures.

The mother ship of music-buying, Amoeba Music, will fete Record Store Day with a celebration befitting its massive size. Festivities kick off with a pre-party at the Uptown in Oakland this Wednesday night -- featuring DJ sets by employees of Amoeba, 1-2-3-4-Go! Records, Mod Lang, and Dave's Record Shop. On Saturday, Amoeba in SF will have Charlotte Gainsbourg in store at noon for a signing of her new album, IRM, and her limited edition Record Store Day 7-inch. She'll be followed by Jonsi of Sigur Ros at 2:30 p.m. Over in Berkeley, the original Amoeba has Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs booked for a DJ set at 2 p.m. Customers at both stores will also enjoy lots of special RSD treatment (gift bags, hourly gift certificate giveaways, and "surprises.")
