Hey DJ! Friday Q&A w/ DJ Conor (No Way Back)
Could you call SF DJ Conor a romantic? Sure. His dream night involves his lady friend entering the dance floor on a white stallion. We're not sure if 222 Hyde has backstage stables (or, rather, a backstage at all), but this vet of the rave scene knows how to hold a club's attention regardless of the situation.
After coming up in San Francisco's old school, underground DJ scene, he's made a name for himself behind the decks, and you can watch him in action at this weekend's installment of No Way Back on Saturday night at 222 Hyde.
Club night(s): No Way Back
Style(s) of music you spin: Multiple genres, anything that I like that has dance sensibility.
So what's your story, in 100 words or less? Basically got into this mess through attending raves in San Francisco during the 1990's. Started collecting mix tapes when I was 14 or 15 and soon after wanted to find the records that were on the tapes. I was most influenced by DJs such as Jeno, Thomas, and Spun, and through friends who were DJing such as Travis "TK" Disko, Tyler Flaherty, Ian "Cobra" Sanchez, Scott Martinson (RIP), and Ben Cook. Later influences were DJs Ryan Poulson, The Beat Broker, James Glass, and Solar. Sixteen years later, Jeno, Thomas, and Spun are still some of my favorite DJs.
What can you tell us about the No Way Back party? No Way Back started in October of 2009. Past guest DJs have included: Trevor Jackson, Pal Joey, Ewan Pearson Woolfy, Hatchback, Tony Watson, Beat Broker, Jeno, Solar, 40 Thieves, Travis "TK" Disko, "Even" Ian, Anthony Mansfield and me.
Future guest over the next few months are: Maurice Fulton (August), Kiki (September), and Soft Rocks (June), among others....
Usually "No Way Back" is co-promoted with other entities that have included: Beats in Space (NY), Hot Biscuit (LA), Gun Club (SF), Noise From The Void (SF), and Smash Hit Music (SF).
