Track of the Day: Hobocop Wants Good News

Oakland's Hobocop, a group inspired by "the stench of nag champa and desperation," has a couple things going for it. First, there's that great name. I'm a sucker for funny puns as band names, and these guys have a good one. Second, they play trashy punk that sounds like it came out of some weirdo's messed up basement in the late '60s. And finally, the Hobocop song "Good News" is making college radio playlists around the country. Locally, the groovy single's in rotation on KUSF and KALX, but the fuzzed-out rave-up about being on the prowl for something to get happy about has reverberations all the way up to Seattle's KEXP.
