San Francisco Star Photographer Jim Marshall Dies

Few photographers become as legendary as the performers they capture, but Jim Marshall was a different breed of camera man. He was San Francisco's portal into a classic era of jazz and rock 'n' roll, his portraits of Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, and, perhaps most famously, Johnny Cash and his rigid middle finger at San Quentin, were iconic images taken by an iconic photographer. So many in the music industry were saddened with the news that Marshall passed away late Tuesday night at age 74.

Wolfgang's Vault also houses a wide array of his photos, in black and white and color--images of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Jim Morrison, the Who, the Beatles, and more. Marshall's work is available for the general public on over 500 album covers as well.
