Poison Apple Pie Proves That Seventh Grade Can Rock
Oh, man, how cool are these kids: with their adolescent hankering to decode the world around them and those all-too-familiar impulses towards simultaneous sentiment and attitude. Poison Apple Pie is an Oakland trio made up of seventh graders Jasmine, Torrey, and Emmalee, who formed at Bay Area Girls Rock Camp, a summer camp for girls ages 8 to 18.
The band played at the SFIAAFF last weekend, performing mostly covers, but made sure to include their own songs, such as "I Need a Chainsaw," and "Flying Swines of Doom." More precocious than precious, they make me wish hard for the impetuous days of the mid-'90s, with their wailing vocals and tendency for irony.
