The Family Jams - Trailer from kevin barker on Vimeo.

When San Francisco soft rockers Vetiver hit the road in 2004 with Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom, Vetiver guitarist Kevin Barker decided to capture the trip on film. The result is a new documentary called The Family Jams, out later this spring, which also records performances by Espers, The Pleased, Meg Baird, and Antony & the Johnsons--who introduces the trailer by gushing, "I know that this tour is gonna to be considered the magical tour of 2004."

For now, the screenings for The Family Jams are limited to East Coast/international destinations. But this trailer shows some intimate and goofy moments between the musicians. (My favorite bit involves a shirtless Banhart walking through a door with a sign requiring shirts in the establishment).

Barker is juggling multiple projects beyond this doc. He released a solo record, You & Me, earlier this year, an album that follows in the Vetiver vein of sweet, smooth jams. Newsom guests on one song (as do members of Wilco, the Shins, and Espers), and Barker will be opening for the harpist on her tour later this year. Considering the outpouring her latest record has received, he might want to bring that camera on the road once again.
