Mark Growden's New Video is a Beautiful Noir Mini-Movie

Categories: Video

Some videos look cool, while others go beyond eye candy into fully-realized works of art. The clip for local songwriter Mark Growden's slow-burning gothic blues ballad "Coyote" is stunning. Award-winning filmmaker Christiane Cegavske turned the song about a broken-hearted animal as a stop-motion animated film, in the style of those old Rudolf and Frosty specials. In fitting with the midnight mood of the song, though, this is no kiddy special. It's a dark bit of seven-and-a-half minute noir, complete with lonely coyotes howling at the moon. The song comes off Growden's upcoming record, Saint Judas, out March 16.
