The Big Lebowski has inspired Dudes around the country to toss back White Russians, throw on old bathrobes, and do strange stuff together. This weekend, fans of the cult flick are planning a San Francisco flash mob--if a public dance that's doing rehearsals tonight still fits in the flash perimeters.
The idea is to help promote yet another Lebowski spin off--this one a play called The Big Lebowski - Over the Line! that's apparently equal parts homage and parody. The theatrical bit opens in town on April 15, but you can get all Lebowski-riled starting tonight, when the team behind the play holds rehearsals for a public dance party it's planning for Saturday, April 3.
The idea for the dance mob is to first watch the video above, memorize the choreography involved, then show up to Kunst-Stoff Arts (929 Market St, 5th Floor) between 7:30 and 9 p.m. tonight with your sunglasses and robe, and learn your moves in 15 minute practice sessions. This will give you an edge when the coordinated, bathrobed masses are unveiled to the public at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday (follow the Twitter feed to find out where).
As Lebowski himself would say, it's a great plan, Walter. It's fuckin' ingenious, if we understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.
