Videos of the Day: Homage to the Girl Band

As a kid, I owned nearly all of Joan Jett's and Lita Ford's solo albums; theirs were my first cassette tape and CD respectively, so with the opening of The Runaways today, I'm getting myself amped and setting the mood with some videos of girl bands that have stolen and/or paid homage to the jailbait-rock legacy.

When The Runaways went their own ways, Joan Jett and Lita Ford split at the intersection of Punk and Hair Metal. While Jett paved the way for artists like Kathleen Hanna and L7...

...Ford most likely influenced female metal bands like Vixen and Girlschool.

Produced and packaged quite neatly to mimic the rock (sans the dirt) image of their predecessors, Sahara Hotnights makes solid but predictable rock, emulating the rockstar vibe with less of an edge: the Rocker Barbie to my Jem. And you can't miss The Runaways reference in their album title Jennie Bomb.

Originally from the Bay Area, The Donnas have always seemed like they channeled the sex, drugs, and rock and roll of The Runaways' music pretty consciously; following the jailbait prototype unanimously.
