​After weeks of bringing you only the best in dirty dance clubs and upbeat live acts, we've decided to throw our own little "slow jam" into the mix of local shindigs. We don't only love electronic music, obviously, so we've included in our weekend party preview an early art show, complete with singer/songwriter performances and free admission. You could start your night off on a mellow note or skip it all together. Just let it be known, we like looking at paintings, sipping free wine, and watching sappy songs played by quirky musicians on occasion too.

What: Letters & Numbers, Jhameel, and more
Where: Art Explosion
When: 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Why: Take a break from the club world for a bit of R & R with local solo artist Nick Haughton (a.k.a. Letters & Numbers). The one-man band "draws from simpler times...like the ones where people recorded on wax cylinders in the trunks of cars on dirt roads," as his label owner Alexandra Vesalga puts it. He'll be joined by the eclectic, genre-bending orchestral pop of Jahmeel, among other performers, at this free art show.

What: Rebel Rave w/ Damian Lazarus, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, and more
Where: Mighty
When: 9 p.m. - ?
Why: From the minds of UK techno label Crosstown Rebels comes the inaugural Rebel Rave Tour. Label mainstays and musical giants in their own right, Damian Lazarus, Seth Troxler, and Jamie Jones will be heading up the entrancing evening, but the real treat comes from newcomer Deniz Kurtel. Her live performance will incorporate a light show made especially for this tour. This is sure to be a raging event, documented in full by the Rebel Rave TV cameras.
