Music bloggers have been buzzing about the upcoming album by L.A's godfather of bass music, Flying Lotus. The much-lauded, genre-bending producer, born Steven Ellison, will release his third album, Cosmogramma, on May 4 (in lieu of its initial release date, the far more appropriate April 20).
In a recent interview with FACT, Warp's Steve Beckett discussed his label's release of Cosmogramma, saying of Flying Lotus, "We've only begun to hear what FlyLo's capable of. He's got it all -- the attitude, the look and the attention to detail and design." For more information on the record, including artwork, tracklist, and ordering information, you can follow this link to the Warp website.
While reading up on this hotly-tipped new release, make sure to grab three brand-new, non-album tracks from Flying Lotus. The free download contains a few one-off productions from Ellison: a track he produced for soulful crooner and labelmate Gonjasufi, a remix he did for ATL rapper Gucci Mane (which is also featured on the Mad Decent-curated mixtape available here), and his exclusive contribution to Warp's year-ending compilation 2010.
If you don't want to stop your free FlyLo kick, take a quick trip over to the website for Ellison's own label, Brainfeeder. There you can score the ultimate primer on his wonky, bass-toting, mind-melting beats, A Decade of Flying Lotus, for free as well.
Now that you're all caught up, come join the rest of us waiting in sweaty-palm anticipation for just a taste of the long-awaited Cosmogramma.
