iPad App (Request) of the Week: Pictory

Whether or not the newly launched device will accommodate its own camera, the iPad's emphasis on consuming content in magazine-like fashion means that sites rich in immersive visuals are likely to see a renaissance. Pictory, which features compelling sets of crowd-sourced and curated photo selections around stories, is high on our list of sites we'd love to check out on the device. Til then, of course, you can enjoy the site anywhere you enjoy the internet.

​ Featuring such themes as "Overseas and Overwhelmed" and "Neighborhood Treasure" (the latter in partnership with GOOD magazine), Pictory's appeal lies in the chemistry between its editorial frame and the gorgeous user-submitted photos and stories. Read it like you would a glossy magazine; take a look at some of the sample images from its "29 Perspectives, One City" San Francisco showcase for a taste.

​ To get featured in Pictory, submit a photo and caption (captions are the story arm to your photo, and thus key to the site experience) by following the instructions here, then come back to see if it was selected to be featured in a showcase. You don't get paid for your contributions, so photographers submit their work if they'd like the chance to get their best photos out there and be featured in this context (naturally, they maintain copyright ownership of their submitted content). Who knows? Through collaborations like the one with GOOD magazine, you may even see your work featured in other large publications. (Psst. There's about a week left to submit to theme, "The One Who Got Away,", just in time for Valentine's Day.)
