The UK-based producer Matt Cutler (a.k.a. Lone) doesn't disappoint. His two full-length albums--works easily reminiscent of Boards of Canada and Flying Lotus--his 12" single for Werk Discs, and even his unreleased material offer herky-jerky beats, lilting melodies, and a warm production aesthetic that are consistently challenging and enjoyable. Not long after releasing his sophomore album, the engrossing and funky Ecstasy and Friends, Lone has put together a special mix for UK music rag FACT.

Lone once posted to his Twitter feed that he is "shit at interviews and recording mixes." It's a self-deprecating statement that has little basis in reality, as the young, talented beatsmith has already crafted a great mix  for XLR8R, not to mention the intelligent interview he did for URB recently, and the warbling beats he put together for FACT's ongoing mix series just about out-do his previous efforts.

Lone's FACT Mix 120 starts off hazy and slow before introducing the incendiary vocals of Ghostface Killah. Tenacious rhymes soon give way to wonky instrumental hip-hop beats, warped pop songs, small bits of futuristic house tunes, and tracks from Lone and his like-minded peers (Bibio, Mike Slott, and Samiyam). It's an eclectic sampling of Lone's best elements, and it's only available for free download for three weeks.
