The members of Sleepy Sun are a bunch of young'uns, but that hasn't stopped this band of early-20-somethings from digging into the annals of rock to craft their sound. It's a psych-rock party, to be sure, but the sextet also likes to dabble in country, metal, Can-like drones, and whatever else suits its fancy--as heard on its debut album, Embrace, which was issued by ATP Recordings last year.

Formed in Santa Cruz and now based in San Francisco, the group has been known to say things like, "With the forest and ocean as our backdrop, we were drawn to each other as fellow musicians, friends, and lovers." Take that as your cue to spark up whenever you like. Following a handful of shows in California--including tonight's gig at The New Parish in Oakland--Sleepy Sun heads down to Austin next month to exhaust itself during SXSW, then spends the first half of April opening for Arctic Monkeys.

Sleepy Sun recently used Twitter to let us know that it has "New songs up the wazoo," so we'll assume some fresh material will be aired out tonight. Fellow psychics Wooden Shjips and Carlton Melton are also on the bill.
