Track of the Day: Mi Ami

At the end of last year, Thrill Jockey released--and then promptly sold out of--a new Mi Ami 12" called "Cut Men." The record featured the original track on the A side, and its flip side is a dub version of the same song.

The label's now offering the "Cut Men" single for free, as a taste of what the trio of Daniel Martin-McCormick, Damon Palermo, and Jacob Long has been up to lately. (The group recorded a full-length album, Steal Your Face, out in April.) The song gives off a frantic, frenetic energy: vocals manic and rushed, percussion importing rhythms from outside American borders, mechanical birds giving off robotic chirps over rapid synth runs. "Cut Men" is the sound of Mi Ami agitated, excited, and ambient, building up to a crescendo of yelps and guitars.
