Track of the Day: Broken Bells (Danger Mouse and James Mercer)

​What happens when you get a little Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley) in your James Mercer (The Shins)? Going by the sound of the first track to be released from this partnership, "The High Road," it sounds a little something like Beck, another indie/alt rock artist Danger Mouse has worked with in recent years.

"The High Road" is available for download at the Broken Bells site for free if  you throw down an email address. You can also preview it at Stereogum.

It's an interesting track, starting off in some bubbly space funk and then grounding itself in Mercer's signature vocals and slowly blooming orchestral pop with a shuffling dance beat.
