Admit it, San Francisco: Singer-songwriter Jolie Holland is like your ex-girlfriend who you never really got over. You haven't seen her in years, since the two of you broke up and she moved on to greener pastures and richer, better-looking boys, but you can't erase your memories of her from your mind. You still pine for her secretly, occasionally call her name during coitus sessions with current paramours, and play her CDs when no one else is around. They bring tears to your eyes.

Lucky for you, a part of Holland's heart will always be in San Francisco--it's where she composed parts of her last album, 2008's The Living and the Dead--and if you really, just, you know, need to see her, mark this date on your calendar: October 10 at the Independent. That's when the only woman you ever truly loved comes back to you (and, okay, the rest of the city as well), in the only SF stop on her just-announced North American tour.
