Let Me Ride: George Clinton on the Mothership

Attention funkateers, freak-a-zoids, and motor-booty-aficionados. Tonight at 330 Ritch's Pacific Standard Time, DJ Sake One dons his Mr. Wiggles suit and plays a very special 4-hour tribute to Parliament-Funkadelic, and, no doubt, its associated artists, a short list of whom includes Bootsy Collins, Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton, the Brides of Funkenstein, Parlet, and, more recently, Amp Fiddler.

As noted in PST's press release, "Parliament Funkadelic (or "P-Funk" for short) was perhaps the most influential musical conglomerate of the 1970s and 80s. Boasting an all-star assortment of musicians -- from George Clinton to Bernie Worrell to Bootsie (sic) Collins -- they kept raw funk alive through the disco era and were a major influence on the formation of hip-hop and house music." And, as maggot brainiacs, g-funkistas, and ol' skool b-boys know, West Coast rappers from Too $hort to Snoop Dogg to Ice Cube to Del tha Funky Homosapien have long held P-Funk--and Clinton solo material like "Atomic Dog"--sacrosanct as sampling source material. Learn more about the funk here; for free admission before 11 p.m., RSVP before 5 p.m. here . One name per RSVP, please.
