I've been really digging Austin garage punks
Hex Dispensers for a while now. Their gothic Ramones sound comprises traces of the Wipers and a perverted fascination with criminal behavior. The group's debut, self-titled album was infested with lover -assassins, television-haunting ghosts, and arsenic milkshakes. On the tight tunesmith's new (excellent) follow-up,
Winchester Mystery House, the Texans continue putting the fun back into funereal, with tracks about doomsday, phantom limbs, and obits. Check out
"I've Got My Doppelganger On" which explodes like a warehouse of illegal fireworks on the chorus. Happy holiday weekend, and mark your calendars for the Hex Dispensers' upcoming San Francisco show on Friday, June 17 at
Annie's--a party that doubles as the 11th birthday bash for
Red Devil Records.
