Yob's list of influences on its MySpace page, the heavy doom band lists "100+ decibels." That last item, tucked into a longer rundown of favorite bands (Sleep, High on Fire, Black Sabbath, Cathedral, Burning Witch) is just another way this group shows it means business when it comes to producing molten metal. Yob's songs are thickly bubbling affairs, with effects-laden guitars coming at you in expansive sonic flows during extended intros, the burly rhythm section pushing a lumbering pathway through all the fuzz. Profound Lore, the label that plays host to a number of apocalyptically atmospheric acts, has a Yob track available for free download,
"Burning the Altar." Protect your ears from the searing when Yob comes to San Francisco: the band plays Slim's on June 27.
